Historical Maps of Sweden for Americans with Swedish Ancestry

Discover the Place Where Your Family's Story Began

More than 1.3 million Swedes emigrated to North America during the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century. Many left small farms, villages, and towns in search of a better life in the United States. Today, millions of Americans have Swedish ancestry, and for many, their family's story began in a place that can still be found on a historical map.

At Historiehemmet, I help you find historical maps of the Swedish village, farm, or town where your ancestors once lived. A historical map is a unique way to reconnect with your family's heritage and see what the landscape looked like when your relatives called Sweden home.

Historical Maps of Swedish Villages, Farms, and Towns

Historiehemmet specializes in historical maps from Sweden. My archive includes maps dating from the 17th, 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries.

Many of these maps include details such as:

  • Farms and crofts
  • Villages and communities
  • Fields and meadows
  • Roads and footpaths
  • Lakes, rivers, and streams
  • Churches, mills, and other buildings
  • Property boundaries and land ownership

For many customers, these maps become treasured family keepsakes and beautiful pieces of wall art while also telling the story of the place where their family's Swedish journey began.

What Information Do I Need?

To find the right historical map, I need to know one or more of the following:

  • The name of the farm
